We’re a charity, please help to keep us free!

We are passionate about making art accessible for everyone, so we think it’s important to keep all our exhibitions, events, and workshops free of charge. In our Hub we provide free art materials and activities, a Little Free Library, free Junior Newsletters and free tea and coffee for visitors. We never want cost to be a barrier for anyone who visits us… But we could do with a helping hand.

Supporting Northern Ireland artists

We provide hours of free one-to-one mentoring and advice to artists here every year, helping them to access funding, make connections and develop their careers. We also provide vital financial support by employing artists as technicians to install exhibitions, and commissioning them to create new online workshops for us. Funding cuts in Northern Ireland over the past ten years have hit local artists hard, but it hasn’t limited their creative ambition. Artists make Belfast one of the most creative and culturally vibrant cities in Europe, and we’re proud to do all we can to support them.

Bringing visual art to all communities

We offer free arts outreach and education projects to all our diverse communities across Northern Ireland. We have worked with people of all ages, abilities and ethnicities to deliver creative projects with them, not just to them. Our work in communities addresses issues of Northern Ireland’s past and its future – we use art to build skills and connections, empower groups to think in new ways, and provide creative tools to tackle complex issues.

Groups we’ve worked with include NICRAS, Brain Injury Matters, Lower Shankill Community Association, North Belfast Interface Network, Kilcooley Women’s Centre, Newhill Ladybirds Groups, Glenbank Community Garden, New Lodge Serenity Club, Anaka Collective and City of Sanctuary. We’ve delivered Older People programmes across Belfast, North Down & Ards and Antrim Coast & Glens Council area, including special projects for people with dementia.

Inspiring young artists

We love inspiring and being inspired by the next generation of creative talent! We provide free exhibition tours and art workshops for schools and community groups. Our free family workshops take place in the Gallery on the first and third Saturday of every month, and we provide all the art materials needed, as well as snacks, drinks, and fun art activities and cool new skills to try. Young visitors can also have their artwork displayed in our Junior Gallery and pick up a free copy of our award-winning Junior Gallery Newsletter.

Putting art online

We have dozens of free online art workshops available to watch on our YouTube channel, with activities for all ages. We will host virtual tours and online galleries on our website of our upcoming exhibitions in our new home on Queen Street, and coming soon, we will be launching a very special online showcase of Northern Irish art, in association with Art UK… watch this space!
