Welcome to the world of visual art, where creativity knows no bounds!
We host free Creative workshops for Teens and Adults on the second Saturday of every month from 1.30-3pm.
Explore contemporary art techniques from Surrealism to photography to collage, be inspired by our exhibitions, and build your creative skills. Please book your space through our What’s On page. Watch out for special events too!
Our new Hub is a dedicated space for workshops, play and creative activities, open to all, and home to our Junior Gallery. We provide free art materials, some inspirational prompts and a quiet space to create, all day long.
Since the very beginning of humanity, art has been used to present opinions, record iconic moments and challenge authority. It’s an important way for young people to pour out their hearts without the weight of words.
So, step into the world of art and let your creativity soar!
Discovering art techniques and new skills
At the Golden Thread Gallery, want to nurture the next generation of artists of all kinds, and celebrate the immense talent and potential of young people here in Northern Ireland.
We believe that art galleries offer a unique space for teenagers and young people to explore their artistic passions and ignite their imaginations. Immersed in a vibrant and inspiring environment, they can engage with diverse kinds of art and foster a deeper appreciation for the beauty and power of visual expression.
Research has actually proven that engaging with art can reduce stress, enhance cognitive function, and promote positive mental health.*
Unfortunately, the number of young people studying art and design for GCSE in Northern Ireland fell this year, to just 2.1% (0.3 percentage points lower than last year). Alongside the low funding for the Arts in Northern Ireland, this has has major implications for the education and aspirations of our young people, the arts workforce and the health and diversity of our creative industries.
By encouraging young minds to experiment with different mediums and techniques here in the gallery through our exhibitions and workshops, we want to empower them to channel their emotions and thoughts into creative outlets. This not only nurtures their artistic talents but also contributes to their overall well-being.*
