HERE & NOW & THEN: POP-UP EXHIBITION

Megan Doherty, Lisa Byrne, Ian Charlesworth, Miriam de Búrca

Launch: Pop-up exhibition for October Late Night Art

Dates: 3rd October 2024

Gallery: Lower Gallery

One exhibition, two locations, thousands of miles apart! We are delighted that the University of Massachusetts Boston Art & Art History Department and the Golden Thread Gallery in are simultaneously exhibiting Here & Now & Then, an exhibition of contemporary artists working in Northern Ireland. This new iteration brings the artwork of Megan Doherty, Lisa Byrne, Ian Charlesworth and Miriam de Búrca to audiences in Boston and Belfast. Their work delivers an evocative portrait of Northern Ireland. They chronicle the years-later reverberations of The Troubles, as well as current-day examinations of identity, gender, and intimacy.

This show is the second exhibition collaboration between UMass Boston and the Golden Thread Gallery. Our first in 2017 brought a group show of faculty artwork to Ireland for an exhibition titled Boston. We plan to continue this creative conversation between sister cities Boston and Belfast, bringing different perspectives and new questions to each other, through our multilayered cultural connection.
