We’re committed to being an accessible and welcoming venue for everyone.

We’ve used the AccessAble template to share this practical information about our building and facilities.

Our Location

The gallery is not situated on a road which has a steep gradient. 

There are several bus stops within 50m of the front door.

The nearest mainline station is Grand Central Station at Weavers Cross, about 10 minutes away by footpath.

Parking 

The gallery does not have its own car park. There is no on-street parking on Queen Street. 

The closest public car parks to the gallery are: 

CastleCourt Shopping Centre. 1600 spaces. £4.20 2 hours. (7 min. away) 

The Tannery, Francis Street. 610 spaces. £3.90 2 hours. (7 min. away) 

Value Car Parks, Grosvenor Road. 575 spaces. £2.40 per hour (or part thereof) up to 12 Noon then £3.60 per hour thereafter (9 min. away) 

Please note: charges are correct as of August 2024, and are subject to change by the individual car-park operators. Please check before you park! 

On Street Blue Badge Parking 

On street marked Blue Badge bays are not available. 

Drop-off Point 

Blue badge holders can drop off directly in front of the gallery, just before the bus stop. 

Outside Access (Main Entrance) 

The gallery entrance is located at the front of the building. 

There is level access into the venue. 

The main door opens away from you (push). The door is heavy. 

The door is single width. The door opening is 95cm (3ft 1in) wide. 

Level Change (Inside Main Entrance) 

There is a ramp or slope on entry to access the gallery.  

The ramp or slope is permanent. 

There is a level landing at the top of the ramp. 

Welcome Desk

Front of House Staff will greet you on arrival, and answer any questions about the gallery.

The welcome desk is 3.2m from the main entrance. 

There is level access to reception from the entrance. 

The reception desk is low. 

The lighting levels are bright. 

There is a hearing assistance system. The type of system is a portable loop. Staff are trained to use system. 

Inside Access 

There is level access to the service(s) on the ground floor. 

There is step-free wheelchair access to the upper floor via an accessible lift.  

There is a hearing assistance system. 

Some exhibitions play background music. 

Motorised scooters are welcomed in public parts of the venue.  

The lighting levels are bright. 

Toilet with Adaptations 

There are accessible toilet facilities within this venue. 

The toilet is not for the sole use of disabled people. 

There is signage on or near the toilet door. 

This accessible toilet is approximately 12m from the main entrance. 

This accessible toilet is located after reception. 

There is level access to this accessible toilet. 

This is a unisex toilet. 

A key is not required for the accessible toilet. 

The door opens outwards. 

The door is locked by a locking handle. 

The width of the accessible toilet door is 95cm (3ft 1in). 

The door is light. 

The dimensions of the accessible toilet are 155cm x 230cm (5ft 1in x 7ft 7in). 

There is a lateral transfer space. 

As you face the toilet pan the transfer space is on the left. 

The lateral transfer space is 60cm (1ft 12in). 

There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side. 

There is a flush on the transfer side. 

The tap type is lever. 

There is a mixer tap. 

The emergency pull cord alarm is fully functional. 

Disposal facilities are available in the cubicle. 

There is no coat hook(s). 

Wall-mounted grab rails are available. 

As you face the toilet the wall-mounted grab rails are on both sides. 

There is a mirror. 

Mirrors are placed at a lower level or at an angle for ease of use. 

The height of the toilet seat above floor level is 45cm (1ft 6in). 

There is no toilet roll holder. 

There is a wash basin. 

The wash basin can be reached from seated on the toilet. 

The wash basin is not placed higher than 74cm (2ft 5in). 

The contrast between the external door and wall is good. 

There is a high colour contrast between the internal door and wall. 

The contrast between the wall-mounted grab rail(s) and wall is good. 

There is a good colour contrast between the dropdown rail(s) and wall. 

The contrast between the walls and floor is good. 

The lighting levels are bright. 

Baby change facilities are located within the venue. 

The baby change facilities are in the accessible toilet. 

The height of the baby change table once extended is 100cm (3ft 3in). 

Inside the venue, there is level access to the baby change facility.

Two standard toilets are available on the upper floor, beside the lift to the upper gallery. 

Toilets are unisex. 

On the upper floor, there is level access to the toilets. 

Lighting levels are bright. 

Sensory Issues

Many of our exhibitions will include sound, video or lights.

All our exhibition listings include sensory information, and our Front of House Welcome team can advise you as well.

We have ear defenders available to borrow.

We provide hand-towels in our accessible bathroom, as well as a hand-dryer, for anyone who doesn’t like noise.

Additional Info 

Staff do receive disability awareness / equality training. 

Documents can be requested in large print. 

A bowl of water can be provided for an assistance dog.
